Instructions for students using greenhouses in Taastrup and at Rolighedsvej

Students are welcome to carry out experiments as part of their master, bachelor and theme projects in the greenhouses either at Rolighedsvej or in Taastrup and in the other controlled environments in Taastrup under supervision of KU teachers.

As part of the planning of the project the student and/or the supervisor should contact one of the greenhouse gardeners for appointment about space and growth conditions for the experiments. The application form should subsequently be filled in and submitted to Hanne Lipczak Jakobsen.

User payment and students duties

There will be user payment for student acitivities, but most services are free for students provided that they carry out the following:

  • All practical tasks related to the experiment under guidance from the greenhouse staff.
  • Weekly inspection of the plants for diseases and pests. Any infection should be discussed with the connected gardener who will take care of the control.
  • Watering of the plants during weekdays. Manual watering is carried out by the weekend watch after appointment with the greenhouse staff. Automatic irrigation could be established if relevant. Omission of watering should be indicated on a clear sign by the plants.

Guidelines

  • The student has the final responsibility for the plants and their care.
  • The gardener attached to the actual greenhouse section should be involved and informed about the project in order to make him capable of assessing the needs of the plants. This is important for optimal solving of technical problems and if the plants do not thrive.
  • Plants can be imported to the glasshouse only after permission from the greenhouse staff due to plant health considerations.
  • Tools can be borrowed from the greenhouse staff. Tools should be returned in cleaned condition after use.
  • The student must keep the tables clean and tidy. Goods and effects are not allowed on the tables unless it is approved by the greenhouse staff.
  • The student is not allowed to operate the technical installations.
  • The climate computer can be used for monitoring the climate not for making changes. Contact the greenhouse staff if changes are wanted.
  • Requests for climatic data can be addressed to the staff.
  • The student is responsible for the clear-out of the plants and the cleaning of the tables when the experiment is closed.
  • Plants should be thrown in the green waste container.
