I am a soil and plant nutrition scientist with a deep interest in how we can improve soil fertility to maintain and increase crop productivity in a sustainable manner. I have particularly centred my research activities on phosphorus cycling in soils. My research spans the areas of 1) characterising mineral and recycled fertiliser from waste streams (i.e. bio-based fertiliser), 2) use and development of microbial inoculants to improve crop nutrient availability in soil and from recycled fertilisers, 3) understanding the physicochemical reactions of mineral and bio-based fertilisers upon their addition to soil and plant-soil systems, and 4) interactions between soil organic matter, organic phosphorus and native soil microorganism communities to deliver improved phosphorus turnover and plant availability, 5) understanding the relationship between carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in soil.
