Emil Elg is a PhD student at the section for Art History and Visual Culture. He is currently working on a project which centers on images of Africans and people of African descent in Danish art from the 17th century to this day. Combining perspectives from Black studies, postcolonial studies and critical race theory with art historical methodology, his research aims to understand the complex relationship between Danish colonial history and the emergence of the Black subject and/or object as a motif in the visual arts.
Elg's project is generously funded by Novo Nordisk Fonden.
