Inaugural Lecture - Caixia Gao, Affiliated Professor in New Plant Breeding/New precision breeding

The department of Plant and Environmental Sciences has appointed Prof. Caixa Gao from the Chinese Academy of Sciences to an affiliated professorship in New Plant Breeding and kindly invites you to take part in her inaugural lecture.

During the past few years, new techniques for precise genome editing via targeted mutation have opened a new era in plant breeding. Combined with the existing knowledge about plant gene sequences and functions, allowing prediction of many molecular changes, the new techniques for precise genome editing provide exciting new possibilities. Consequently, the new techniques have given rise to a booming research area with a profound potential for scientific breakthroughs and translation into new applications for crop improvement.

Prof. Gao is one of the world-leading experts on new precision mutation breeding as a tool to achieve solutions for pathogen control in cereals. Her expertise is documented in a substantial number of recent peer-reviewed publications in high-ranking journals and she is a very frequent keynote speaker at international conferences and through this affiliation, the department will strengthen its efforts towards the further development of new techniques in plant breeding as part of the solution in the future of plant breeding and crop improvement.

The Lecture is open to everyone interested.
